If you have ever stood in front of a rack of children’s clothing and felt that everything was either a cartoon print or a plain basic, you are not alone. That is exactly where I kept finding myself, shopping for my daughter.

Piggy & Petal is the collection I went looking for: pieces with real design in them. An interesting silhouette, a thoughtful texture, a small embroidered detail. Prints chosen the way a woman chooses a print she loves, not just because they are cute.

Color used the way grown-ups use color. Mama’s fashion, scaled down. Children notice more than we think, and what they wear is part of how their eye for beauty grows.

Some of my favorite pieces feel familiar across generations. A yellow cardigan with a tiny crochet flower could have been worn by a mother or a grandmother in her own childhood. When we dress our children, our own childhoods are quietly in the room. I hope these clothes carry a little of that connection.

Every style is chosen one by one, and I check fabric and construction piece by piece. My four-year-old daughter wears each style before it joins the line, and her wear tests settle the sizing. Small runs, honest prices, because children grow, as they should.
